Overview

I was the Senior Program Manager for the Red Bull Games and Esports program. We ran programs for StarCraft, Dota 2, Hearthstone, Street Fighter, Smash Brothers, League of Legends, and many more. We sponsored athletes across multiple esports disciplines, including doing a deal with Ninja at the height of his popularity.

The Challenge

The biggest challenge was convincing the people at Red Bull that games was worth their time and attention. A lot of the job was internal evangelism and then proving it with great numbers.

Gaming content became some of the most performant content in the whole business.

Global Expansion

Program started in the US and was adopted by Austria. Consulted on global program and negotiated deals on behalf of Austrian HQ.

Results

What started as a small team nested at HQ grew to have tremendous national and global influence. I came in as a junior hire and left running the national program, consulting on the global strategy, and negotiating deals on behalf of Austrian HQ. My biggest year saw 100+ live events across 16 markets. Our gaming content became some of the most performant content in the whole business.
